Disney and Pixar shocked a lot of people when an ominous first trailer for "Cars 3" was released last November. With Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) crashing on the racetrack, those who have come to love the legendary race car have been curious to learn more about the third installment in the animated sports film franchise. Thankfully, they won't have to wait for too long as a new trailer for "Cars 3" will be released next week.

According to ComingSoon, a new trailer will be aired during the 2017 College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship game between the Clemson tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday, Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. EST on ESPN. According to sneak peek, the upcoming trailer will an all-new exclusive look at the upcoming animated film.

Last year, Disney and Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter teased the kind of story that viewers will be getting in "Cars 3." Unlike the more octane-filled "Cars" sequel, it will feature a lot of the heartwarming elements that made "Cars 1" so successful in the first place.

"It's a very emotional story. It's a little bit more akin to 'Cars 1,' where you get into a deep emotion with him. It's really a special story. It's very emotional and his relationship with Doc Hudson [Paul Newman], and his memory of Doc Hudson," he told Entertainment Weekly.

It seems that the violent car crash featured in the first trailer mimics the career-ending accident that Doc Hudson suffered in his youth, as told in "Cars 1." Experiencing a similar fate, Lighting McQueen will realize through the accident that he is no longer as young and as fast as he was and that he will need help if he wants to compete in the high-tech racing world.

"Think of where he'd be in his career now in real time. [McQueen] is not an old man, but he is one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire," director Brian Fee told USA Today last year.

According to the official synopsis, McQueen will enlist the help of a young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, so that he can once again compete in the sport that he loves so much. McQueen gains inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet as he sets out to prove that he still has what it takes to become Piston Cup Racing's champion.

"Cars 3" is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 16.
