Conor McGregor UFC news 2017: Rogan says McGregor should fight Nick Diaz next

Everybody wants a piece of Conor McGregor right now. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ricardo Mayorga want to fight him inside a boxing ring, while a crowd of lighter weight fighters in the UFC can't wait to get their hands on him inside the octagon. So, who should he fight next?

Since those boxing bouts are highly unlikely right now, McGregor's next bout should be in the octagon. During a recent Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) commentator Joe Rogan said (transcribed by Bloody Elbow) the UFC lightweight champion should take on Nick Diaz next.

"I think they missed the boat if they wanted to make the fu*king big money. It's Nick Diaz vs. Conor McGregor. I think Nick is like, 'Look, I want a big, big name, or a title fight,'" Rogan stated.

Rogan has a point. Nate Diaz may be more popular right now because he made McGregor tap on their first fight, but his brother, Nick, has a more impressive résumé. Nick has already fought a list of who's who in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).

He has fought the likes of Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Frank Shamrock, Carlos Condit, B.J. Penn, Takanori Gomi, Diego Sanchez and Robbie Lawler. That's quite a list. Maybe McGregor's name will eventually be added to the list.

Diaz hasn't fought since 2015 when he faced Silva in a middleweight bout. He was suspended when marijuana metabolites were found in his urine samples after the fight. Diaz's suspension was lifted in August 2016, but he has yet to fight in the octagon.

A fight between the two makes a lot of sense. Rogan said Diaz wants a big money fight, and McGregor is without a doubt the biggest draw in the UFC right now. Fans definitely want to see the two square off in the octagon, and the lead-up of the fight is going to be legendary. Just imagine the two jawing at each other in the middle of the fight.

If that bout happens, expect a lot of scowls from lightweight contenders who have to wait in line for their chance to fight their hands on the belt.
