"Deadpool" may be a solo film with Ryan Reynolds playing the Merc with a Mouth, however, everybody knows that it is still a part of the "X-Men" film franchise. So, when rumors of Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) involvement in the sequel started surfacing, fans were hyped up. Of course, it should be noted that it was only a rumor, though.

A fresh wave of excitement also surged through the film's fanbase when screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that "Deadpool 2" would feature a lot of characters, but in an interview with Collider, the writers clarified that fans shouldn't expect a lot of "A-list" X-Men characters in the film.

"You kinda don't want a Ferrari in Deadpool unless it's for a real purpose, in the sense that Deadpool is a gritty, grimy, smaller thing, with characters you aren't as familiar with. It's a little bit like lovable losers. It's not the A-list of superheroes, necessarily," Reese stated.

That's a bummer. But he also added that this doesn't mean that they were completely excluding popular characters. "The occasional cameo or appearance by an A-list-type person could be really funny and/or dramatic. So we have an eye open for those things, but we don't want to just put people in it because we can now," Reese said.

Well, Colossus (voiced by Stefan Kapicic) already appeared in "Deadpool," and some would consider him an A-list character in the X-Men world. The actor voicing him may not be famous, but the character has been a mainstay in the X-Men comic books since he was introduced back in 1975.

Meanwhile, Reynolds has recently posted a photo of himself, Hugh Jackman, and Pierce Brosnan on Instagram with the caption "Wolvie. Bond. Wade." While the post itself seems innocent enough, a number of publications started saying that Brosnan may have been tapped to play Cable.

Reynolds did not say anything about Brosnan as Cable, but fans on the internet tend to let their imaginations run wild. Until an official announcement is made, readers are advised to take this with a pinch of salt.

"Deadpool 2" is scheduled to premiere on Jan 12, 2018.
