'Deadpool' creator Rob Liefeld reacts to the Hollywood buzz of casting Cable

Ryan Reynolds as the titular character in "Deadpool" | Fox

The hunt for the actor who will play Cable in the budding "Deadpool" franchise continues as new hints may actually be pointing to an A-list star eventually nabbing the role.

It is no secret that even before the proper process in terms of casting has begun, fan choices have already made rounds online, with everyone giving their own sentiments regarding who should play the time-travelling mutant.

A recent social media post by both Ryan Reynolds — who plays the merc-with-a-mouth anti-hero — and Hugh Jackman — whom everybody knows as the adamantium claws-wielding Wolverine — has sent the fandom into a total frenzy. In the snapshot, the two Fox-Marvel Universe actors have sandwiched Pierce Brosnan, leading to some claiming this as a foreshadowing that the British actor may eventually play the coveted character.

In terms of aesthetics, the former James Bond actor fits the bill perfectly with his silver-hair and good body built. It also does not hurt that he can turn on his suave persona — a total 180-degree turn from that of Deadpool's no-filter personality. That being said, there's no official confirmation yet on this highly talked-about speculation, which leaves fans at the edge of their seats for the actual casting announcement.

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, whom fans can assume has a hand in terms of picking who will portray one of his other brainchildren, revealed that the Cable gig is a pretty popular one in Hollywood right now. Via a tweet, he shares that there are actually a ton of actors wanting to nab the job. Unfortunately, however, he did not drop any names on his social media update.

Just before the viral photo of Jackman, Brosnan and Reynolds made its way online, "Deadpool 2" co-writer, Paul Wernick, has revealed through an interview with Collider that they have yet to determine who will play Cable.

"It's intimidating because we have to find his voice, and we don't have an actor yet so we don't know who we're writing for," he said referring to working on the character without having a canvass for it. "There's been so many diverse people that have been brought up as possibilities for Cable, and who have not been brought up but we're considering. And that, much like with Ryan [Reynolds], that decision will greatly impact his cadences, his rhythms. And we'll certainly make him like he is in the comics, and we'll certainly be faithful, but I do think that voice will inform us quite a bit," he explained.

"Avatar" cast Stephen Lang was among the first ones, if not the first, who openly expressed his desire to board the "Deadpool" sequel with the aforementioned role. But with the James Cameron's sci-fi franchise making its cinematic return, scheduling may be a difficulty.

Principal photography for "Deadpool 2" is set to commence sometime early this year with a target release date sometime in the spring of next year.
