The Mac version of "Elite: Dangerous" was recently launched after the game's beta test was done. The game will next be released for the Xbox One console.

The game features space travel, trading, combat and exploration. It was first released for the PC. At that time, reviewers described it as an "amazing space simulator" with beautiful graphics. But the game suffered from glaring flaws such as few characters. Gamers also had to suffer through long periods of boredom as they flew from one point in space to another.

In a recent announcement, the developer Frontier Developments said people who bought "Elite: Dangerous" from its website will get access to Steam keys for free.

Those who bought the Mac version of the game on Steam will also get access to Steam keys for free. If they want to download it, they will have to use the Mac Launcher provided by Frontier Developments, which will aid players in properly installing the game.

Although the game is available on Steam, the developers are encouraging people to buy from their website. They say direct purchases will enable Steam to better support the game. With the game's release on Steam, which many thought would not happen, Frontier Developments has fulfilled a long standing wish from fans of the game who wanted to make use of Steam support.

Even though "Elite: Dangerous" has come to Steam, Frontier Developments said the game will continue to run on its servers. It explained that it is working with Valve so that players would be able to connect their accounts on Steam with those on Frontier Development servers.

As for when the Steam Key will become available, the developers said the kickoff day is May 28. By that date, users will able to generate the key right from their Frontier account.

Those who backed "Elite: Dangerous" on Kickstarter will also get access to the Steam Keys and will also be able to participate in the Mac beta.
