Google Nexus 2016 release date, specs rumors: HTC Sailfish, HTC Marlin won't have HTC, Nexus logos?

Google Nexus rumor season is officially underway.

Last week, reports came in about the rumored specs and release dates for the HTC Sailfish and HTC Marlin, the alleged Google Nexus 2016 smartphones. Now, more details about the two new phones have come out.

Android Police, which has a history of accurate Nexus leaks, produced a render of the rumored HTC Sailfish and HTC Marlin based on "a reliable source."

Previous reports have indicated that HTC will be building the two new Nexus phones for Google and that they will be coming out in the next few months. The smaller device is a 5-inch phone codenamed "Sailfish" while the larger one is a 5.5-inch phone codenamed "Marlin." Apart from one being smaller and the other larger, the two new Google Nexus phones are identical in design and hardware.

Android Police's render, which represents both phones, has one glaring omission. The HTC logo, which one would expect to see on a phone built by the company, is nowhere to be seen. According to the website, the "G" logo on the rear of the device may or may not make it to the phone's final design. And while Android Police admitted that it is unclear if the HTC logo will be part of the actual phone, the website said, "[W]e are inclined to believe the answer is no."

The missing HTC and Nexus logos seem to point at Google going for a minimalist, streamlined look. There's no rear camera hump on the phone either, but there is a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. The phone is clad in aluminum, with a plastic or glass panel giving the phone's rear a two-toned look.

According to PC Advisor UK, the Sailfish and the Marlin will come equipped with quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, 4GB RAM, USB Type-C ports, and AMOLED displays.

The official release dates for the rumored HTC Sailfish and HTC Marlin have yet to be announced.
