Houston Rockets trade rumors: Motiejunas' future even more in doubt

It appears that the Houston Rockets and Donatas Motiejunas' situation is far from over after the two parties failed to agree on a deal before the deadline closed.

The two sides were going back and forth on how they can get a contract on the table. The Rockets used their qualifying offer to sign the Lithuanian to a deal, but the power forward believed that he was certainly worth more. This was where the talks began to stumble.

They were unable to reach a definitive number that they could agree on. Although there was interest from other teams, they were not interested enough to close a deal that was set on the table.

Day by day, the deadline inched closer, until it came and still no deal was set in place. Now Motijunas is without a team and the Rockets are without a capable power forward.

It is still unclear how this will all unfold later on in the season, and whether Motijunas will suit up in a Rockets uniform.

He is certainly a very capable player. In his first four years in the league, Motiejunas averaged 7.8 points per game while shooting an impressive 48 percent from the field. He has decent shooting from beyond the arc at 31 percent and is big enough to try and bang underneath with other forwards.

Now the question is whether he is worth the money he believes he is owed, or is he better off playing overseas and continue to craft his skill set?

At 26 years old, Motiejunas is still young and has yet to reach his peak. Maybe given ample experience and more games under his belt, he will eventually find his real role in the game and return to the NBA better than when he left.

Whether he still plays with the Rockets or he joins another team is another discussion entirely.
