HTC One (M8) vs Samsung Galaxy S5 Review: Specs, Features Comparison - Samsung Phone Overshadows Competitor
A comparison of the HTC One (M8) and Samsung Galaxy S5 reveals that both phones are nearly equally matched in some aspects. However, in terms of specs and camera, the device from Samsung overshadows it competitor.
The One (M8), for starters, has stunning design and comes with a metal unibody with great features. However, it is much more difficult to hold than its competitor. As for the Galaxy S5 it has a plastic build with a faux metal band made of plastic running around its edge, while its back panel features dimpled plastic.
In terms of size, the One (M8) is taller and narrower while the Galaxy S5 is lighter and thinner. As for their displays, the Galaxy S5 has a slightly larger 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 432 pixels per inch. The One (M8) has a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 441pixels per inch.
The Galaxy S5 has a fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor and is dust and water resistant while the One (M8) has an accelerometer, compass and barometer.
As for their specs, the One (M8) comes with the Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801chipset, Quad-core 2.3 GHz CPU in the US/EMEA and an Adreno 330 GPU. On the other hand, the Galaxy S5 has the Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801chipset, Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU. In terms of RAM, both have the same 2GB version.
Both devices have similar microSD slots which allow for external storage of up to 128 GB to be added and are sold in two versions with onboard memory of 16 GB and 32 GB.
A major difference is their cameras, as the One (M8) has a Dual 4 megapixel camera at its rear while the Galaxy S5 has a 16 megapixel camera.
Finally coming to price, the Galaxy S5 is priced at $199 with a two-year contract, while the One (M8) is available at $49.99 with a similar contract.
