HTC One M9 vs Sony Xperia Z4 Comparison: Rival Devices Share Similar Specs and Features

This year Sony decided to improve the specs on the Xperia Z4 even without introducing any new features on its flagship phone. However, with its current specs and design, the Xperia Z4 still proves it can take on the latest Android smartphones in the market, including the HTC One M9. Here is how the two phones compare.

Design

The One M9 is very much like HTC's flagship model last year. Its hand-polished metal unibody gives it a premium and beautiful finish. The phone comes in four shades: gunmetal grey, amber gold, pink-gold combination, and silver-gold combination.

As for the Xperia Z4, it has a metal frame and glass on its back panel. Its edges are padded to reduce any damage caused by accidental drops. The device comes in four colors: black, white, green, and copper.

Display

The displays on both devices are pretty much alike in terms of quality and resolution. The Xperia Z4 has a slightly bigger IPS LCD screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch. As for the One M9, it has a Super LCD3 screen measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.

Specs

Both devices have the same chipset in the form of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. The chipset on both devices is coupled with an octa-core CPU that consists of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz. As for their GPU, each features an Adreno 430 version.

Memory

Both devices have a memory slot that can accommodate an external storage of up to 128 GB. As for RAM, both have 3 GB versions.

Camera

Just like their other features, the cameras on the two devices are again quite similar as each has 20-megapixel version at their rear without optical image stabilization. As for their front-facing cameras, the Xperia Z4 has a 5-megapixel version while the One M9 has a 4-megapixel version.

Price

The Sony Xperia Z4 could cost around $890 without a two-year contract when it is eventually launched in the U.S. The HTC One M9 costs $199 with a two-year contract.
