'iMac 2016' specs, launch date rumors: Apple to unveil new iMacs at Oct. 27 event?
Apple made the last update on its iMacs on Oct. 13, 2015 when they brought Retina display to the smaller models and equipped the larger models with new Skylake processor chips. That was a year ago and consumers are itching to find out what new upgrades and features will roll out for this year's iMacs.
One rumored update on the 2016 iMac is a 5K ultra HD display. Aside from this, the upcoming iMac is also expected to feature Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Radeon Polaris Graphics. Rumors are also expecting it to support virtual reality because of its new graphic chips. Another speculation going around is that Apple is putting in Kaby Lake processors in the 2016 iMacs. Although these processors are planned to be released in 2017, Apple, which is usually ahead in acquiring or coming up with new technologies, is likely to use such.
All these speculations will persist until the release of the 2016 iMacs, but when will the launch actually be?
Based on previous launch records, it may be noted that the latest iMac was released October last year. It is believed the 2016 iMacs should come out by the same time this year. Besides, Apple has already sent out an invitation to an event to be held at their Cupertino campus on Oct. 27.
Best Buy, Best Buy has also leaked an early listing of the 2016 iMac at the beginning of this month. Now, it was probably a mistake by an employee who was trying to create a placeholder for the product, but it could also strongly suggest that the retailer has had advance notification of an imminent launch and posted a listing slightly too early by mistake. It could also be a speculative listing created on the basis that it would probably be needed at some point.
Whichever it is, iMac consumers better keep their eyes peeled for the Oct. 27 event.
