'Injustice 2' release date: game's storyline reveals on Jan. 17; new trailer features Supergirl as villain?
Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studio have kept the fans of "Injustice" waiting for a sequel to the second installment, "Injustice 2," before it is released on May 16. New details of the upcoming game's storyline will be revealed on Jan. 17.
This has been announced by PlayStation, who took it to Twitter to announce the grand reveal, which players would witness on the PlayStation Blog. The much-awaited information, according to CinemaBlend, may seem to compete with other PS Vita and PlayStation 4 (PS4) games such as "2064: Read Only Memories," "Atelier Shallie Plus" and "Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star."
Back to the Twitter post, the video features Supergirl looking into the chaotic surroundings she is in, following an explosive battle. The publication noted that the trailer appears to be a cinematic promo rather than an actual gameplay, considering that no stages in "Injustice 2" have been revealed so far.
It is heavily rumored that Supergirl will not be a hero, but an antagonist — just like Superman in the first title. However, this has yet to be confirmed.
"Injustice 2" was announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last year, featuring some all-time favorite heroes such as Aqua Man, Batman and Superman, plus new characters such as Supergirl, Gorilla Grodd and Red Lantern Atrocitus. Then at the Gamescom event, enthusiasts learned that Harley Quinn and Dead Shot will be among the playable heroes. At the San Diego Comic-con, it was announced that Blue Beetle and Wonder Woman will join the upcoming game.
Meanwhile, fans are currently hyped about the latest leak regarding "Injustice 2" preorder. An alleged listing on the PlayStation Store has revealed another playable character called Darkseid. The listing reads, "Pre-order Injustice 2 to play as Darkseid," followed by "one of the greatest villains in the universe. Available at launch," WWG cited.
The publication believes that the arrival of Darkseid in "Injustice 2" is good news for the fans of "Injustice: Gods Among Us" since the character already appeared in the game. He is described as a huge, slow-moving character able to withstand severe damage.
