'Jessica Jones' season 2 release date, spoilers news 2016: Hellcat transformation not on cards yet
Fans are excited to see Trish's (Rachael Taylor) take on her iconic comic book alter ego in "Jessica Jones" season 2, but this may not be the case, at least not yet.
Trish is expected to get a full-on Hellcat makeover sometime in the future. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg revealed that she will be a prominent character in the new season, but not in the way fans expect.
"I'm interested in continuing to explore the relationship between Trish and Jessica (Krysten Ritter). That is the core relationship in the piece," Rosenberg explained of her plans for Jessica's BFF in "Jessica Jones" season 2.
"It is about female friendship, it is about how friends evolve—they're sisters, really—and it's about how they evolve and ping off each other," she continued, adding that the titular character's relationship to people will be a big theme in the new season.
Rosenberg also knows that some fans see Jessica and Trish's friendship leaning towards romance. She said that she loves that some people see it that way, but added that it is primarily about their "history, and their trust and connection."
As for Trish's superhero future, Rosenberg still has this major character development on the table, but "Jessica Jones" season 2 might not be the setting for that.
However, she still recognizes the "promise" of Trish being one with Hellcat. Still, Rosenberg suggested that she will fully flesh out the character first before leading her to become the superhero she was meant to be.
"For me, the character of Trish is so rich, Hellcat or not. She's already bad-ass," she told IGN, once again restating her interest to tackle her relationship with Jessica first.
"Jessica Jones" season 2 won't premiere until 2018, but fans will get to watch the best friends in action in the "Defenders" miniseries that drops o Netflix next year.
