Last year, the second-generation Moto X earned raves for its customizable back panels. But this year, it's the LG G4 with its leather encased back panel that has been capturing the headlines. Here is a comparison between the LG G4 and the Moto X (2014).
Design
The Moto X only has metal on its edge and the rest of the phone is made from plastic. As for its back panels, it can be customized by the customer who has a choice of materials including bamboo, leather, wood and plastic. Coming to the LG G4, it largely made from plastic and has a slight curve running the length of its body. As for its back panel, its default version features patterned polycarbonate in grey or white with a coating of ceramic paint. Customers can also opt to buy leather back panels dyed in natural colors. These can be swapped out easily.
Display
The LG G4 has a bigger and better quality screen than its competitor and comes with an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 538 pixels per inch. The Moto X has an AMOLED screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 424 pixels per inch.
Specs
Since the LG G4 was released recently, it has better and faster hardware in the form of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, a hexa-core CPU with two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44 GHz. As for the Moto X it has an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, a Krait 400 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and an Adreno 330 GPU.
Memory
The Moto X lacks a memory slot. As for the LG G4, it has a memory slot that can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. The Moto X comes with 2 GB RAM while the LG G4 has 3 GB RAM.
Price
The Moto X costs $99 with a two-year contract. It is expected that the LG G4 could cost $199 with a similar contract.
