Microsoft Surface 3 vs Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Comparison: Surface 3 Puts Up Good Fight Against Premium Sony Tablet

Microsoft recently launched the Surface 3, the budget version of the Surface Pro 3. This laptop/tablet hybrid is getting a lot of competition from other devices like the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, which was also launched this year. Here is a comparison between the two devices.

Design

Sony opted to use a plastic body on the Xperia Z4 Tablet except on its rear where it used mineral glass. This design makes the device light weight with its heaviest Wi-Fi + LTE version weighing at just 393 grams. It also has an IP68 rating, which means it can safely be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. The Xperia Z4 Tablet has a Bluetooth keyboard, which has to be purchased separately. Likewise, the Type Cover of the Surface 3 also has to be purchased separately. The Surface 3 is taller, wider and thicker than its competitor and much heavier, weighing 622 grams without its Type Cover. As for its body, it is crafted from magnesium and comes in one color, silver. The Surface 3 also allows users to buy a Pen that is designed specifically for it. This is not available for the Xperia Z4 Tablet.

Display

The display on the Surface 3 measures 10.8 inches. It has a resolution of 1920 X 1280 pixels with a density of 214 pixels per inch. The Xperia Z4 Tablet has a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels and a density of 299 pixels per inch.

Specs

On the Surface 3 is a quad-core Intel Atom x7 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. The Xperia Z4 Tablet has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, along with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores and four Cortex-A57 cores.

Memory

The Surface 3 comes with either 2 GB or 4 GB RAM while the Xperia Z4 Tablet has 3 GB RAM. Both devices have microSD slots; hence, external storage can be added. They also both have USB ports. As for internal storage, the Xperia Z4 Tablet has 32 GB on board and the Surface 3 either has 64 GB or 128 GB.

Camera

The rear facing camera on the Xperia Z4 Tablet is an 8.1-megapixel version while the front is a 5.1-megapixel shooter. While the Surface 3 has a similar rear camera, its front version is a 3.5-megapixel version.

Price

The Wi-Fi only 32 GB Xperia Z4 Tablet could be priced at $637 while the 64 GB Surface 3, with Type Cover included, costs $630.
