Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date: Delay pushes launch back to 2017 due to design-related concerns?
Microsoft reportedly will not be releasing its Surface Book 2 until next year because a new feature being integrated into the device does not seem to be compatible with its existing design features.
The newest convertible laptop offering form Microsoft is said to be having a 4K resolution of screen display and a new Thunderbolt 3 Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. These are the additional features that are reportedly causing inconsistencies with the current design components of the 2-in-1 laptop. These two new aspects would not match with the "Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge" attribute of the new Surface Book 2. This allegedly leaves a gap that is formed when the device is closed. This concern with the design will have to lead the company to postpone the official launch of the Surface Book 2 for next year.
In addition, it is speculated that Microsoft also opted to have the Surface Book 2 released in time for the uncovering of the second Windows 10 Redstone 2 update.
It can be recalled that the company released the first Surface Book back in October 2015. The convertible laptop then was equipped with a Surface Pen support for its detachable screen. The original Surface Book operated on Windows 10 Professional and was powered by Intel's Skylake dual core processor.
In the next generation of Microsoft's 2-in-1 series of convertible laptops, users will reportedly experience the additional features of Windows 10. Meanwhile, Kaby Lake processor is believed to be arriving later this year from Intel and this new generation processor from Intel will be expected to improve the battery capacities of the Microsoft Surface Book 2. The battery power was said to be a weakness of its predecessor which contributed to some of its negative feedback.
For now, fans can only come up and peruse through speculations based on observations from Microsoft's original Surface Book. The tech leader has yet to release official statements about their new production.
