Nokia N1 vs iPad Mini 3 Comparison: Specs, Features Review - A Contest Too Close To Call

With the Nokia N1 which is due for release in February 2015, Nokia wants to prove that it is capable of holding its own in the tablet race which is currently heating up with the entry of several new names. Compared to the high-end iPad Mini 3, the Nokia N1 manages to hold its own.

The Nokia N1 unibody chassis is made of aluminum, sporting a premium look and finish like the iPad Mini 3, which has the same type of full metal body. Comparing thickness, the Nokia N1 comes in at 0.27 inches while the iPad Mini 3 is a bit thicker at 0.30 inches. The Nokia N1 is also lighter, weighing 318 grams compared to the 331 grams of its competitor.

When it comes to display, both the iPad Mini 3 and the upcoming Nokia N1 have a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a screen size of 7.9 inches, which means they have the same pixel density of 324 pixels per inch. Both tablets even have the same type of IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with the only difference being that the display of the iPad Mini 3 is LED-backlit.

As far as processors go, the Nokia N1 will come with an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset, a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU. The iPad Mini 3 has an Apple A7 chip, a dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone CPU that is ARM v8-based coupled with a PowerVR G6430 GPU that provides quad-core graphics.

Comparing batteries, the iPad Mini 3 has a 6470 mAh battery while the Nokia N1 features a 5300 mAh version.

The Nokia N1 outshines the iPad Mini 3 when comparing cameras since the former has an 8 megapixel version at its rear while its competitor only has a 5 megapixel version.

Finally in terms of price, the Nokia N1 will have a price tag of $249 for its 32 GB version while the starting version of the iPad Mini 3 is priced at $400.
