'Penny Dreadful' Season 4 air date, plot rumors update: Spin-off instead of new season? Eva Green returns as Vanessa?

The long-time viewers of Showtime's hit thriller drama "Penny Dreadful" may not have gotten what they were looking for in the shocking Season 3 finale. Moreover, it seems that the decision is already final for the third season to be the last for the series. In spite of all the negativity towards having a fourth season, the fans are still hoping that they will see more of Eva Green's Vanessa Ives.

Game N Guide reported that "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 may no longer happen, especially that the series' main character, Vanessa, already met her demise towards the end of the third season's finale episode. The good thing for now is that the rumors are pointing to a possible "Penny Dreadful" spin-off that will bring Vanessa back to life. Aside from the return of Mendez' character, it is likely that another character, Catriona Hartdegen, will be joining Vanessa in their rumored spin-off series.

Catriona Hartdegen was played by actress Perdita Weeks, and she was first introduced in "Penny Dreadful" in the sixth episode of Season 2 titled "No Beast So Fierce." Many fans took notice of the chemistry between Vanessa and Catriona, or "Cat" as what the latter revealed to be her nickname. With "Penny Dreadful" Season 4 not being announced, the fans can look forward to this rumored spin-off involving these two characters.

"Penny Dreadful" creator John Logan already stated in an earlier interview with TV Line that there are no plans of bringing back Vanessa Ives after her death in Season 3. As for the other supporting characters like Catriona, Logan revealed that he is open to making the proper conclusions for them without the need of having a fourth season.

"To me, the show was always going to achieve closure with the death of Vanessa,"said Logan. On the other hand, Chatsportnet reported that there is no official confirmation from Showtime or the "Penny Dreadful" production team regarding the possible fourth season renewal or a spin-off series, even after Logan expressing his thoughts about a standalone TV show for a particular character. After all, Logan made it clear that the main plot of "Penny Dreadful" would only run for three full seasons.
