'Pretty Little Liars' season 7 spoilers news: Actor teases Elliott's 'more complex' motivations, possible return
The latest episode of Freeform's "Pretty Little Liars" may have seen the death of new villain Elliott Rollins, but Huw Collins, the actor who played him, says that viewers will be learning more about the character in future episodes.
In "The Talented Mr. Rollins," the third episode in the teen drama/thriller's current season, the Liars ran down Elliott on their way to find and save Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse). The character, whose bloodied head crashed through Hanna Marin's (Ashley Benson) windshield, is now definitely dead. But according to Collins, the show isn't done with Elliott just yet.
The character was introduced in the show's sixth season as Alison's future husband and Charlotte's (Vanessa Ray) doctor. In "Pretty Little Liars" season 7, after the time jump, Elliott emerged as Alison's husband and the show's biggest villain — that is, until his grisly death in episode 3.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Collins said that while viewers may assume that Elliott was motivated by his need to avenge Charlotte's death, there may actually be more to the villainous character than that.
"I would say it's more complex than that and hopefully we will see that explored and made explicit later in the show," the actor said.
Collins also admitted that he has spoken with "Pretty Little Liars" executive producer I. Marlene King, who gave him the backstory on Elliott. The actor called his character's history "pretty complex" and said, "...using things you already know about him on the show — like the episode title, 'The Talented Mr. Rollins,' ... you can gain some information and insight about Rollins's true motives or lack of motives from that parallel."
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Collins explained why he thinks Elliott's story isn't over.
"Anytime a character is so extreme, like Elliott has been, I think you always feel like you want to know why he was so extreme about it," he said. "Otherwise, it's a motive-less action."
"Pretty Little Liars" season 7 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
