The participants of Gamescom 2016 were thrilled when Capcom released a new trailer for the upcoming horror video game "Resident Evil 7." The latest installment of Capcom's highly popular "Resident Evil" franchise is said to stir the whole series back to its horror roots. With the latest Gamescom trailer, it is finally proven that the new sequel will be banking on horror like the first three "Resident Evil" game titles. The trailer was shown in a "found footage" fashion where the fans finally meet the playable characters of the game.

As recapped by Game Spot, the latest "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" trailer introduces the fans to an unnamed young woman. She is seen holding the camera that is still rolling while she is running around an abandoned house. The appearance of the house looks terrifying, and the woman seems to be hiding from someone. She records what seems to be her final moments with a man named Ethan, and during the final moments of the video, an undead-looking old lady appeared as the video was cut with a loud scream. Game Spot identified the freakishly terrifying woman as Marguerite Baker, although her intentions in pursuing the people in the trailer are not revealed.

With the new official traiiler, it is also confirmed that the new "Resident Evil" entry will be a first person shooter game, like the first three "Resident Evil" titles

"Resident Evil" producer Masachika Kawata explained how the found footage videos like the one shown during Gamescom will help in building up the narrative of "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard."

"So in the main game you're playing as the main character," revealed by Kawata in an interview with Game Spot. "These videotapes are a chance for you to experience the events of the storyline from different characters' perspectives, maybe even fill in story gaps. They act to break up the main narrative in an interesting way."

"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" will be released on Jan. 24, 2017, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
