It appears that fans of "Scandal" who fell in love with the show the first time they saw it will be in for a big treat in season 6 of the hit ABC political drama.

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour, ABC president Channing Dungey let out a tiny bit of information on what to expect in "Scandal" season 6.

"It was the fifth season this year. Long-running shows, there's always a little bit of ebb and flow," he said via Entertainment Weekly, referring to how the show's viewership in the last season dipped.

"We have read the first script for the new season and it's fantastic. It feels very much like a return to form," Dungey then ultimately revealed.

With that said, "Scandal" season 6 is looking to bring back its lost viewers. Last season only collected 10.68 million viewers, down from the previous two seasons that both crossed the 12 million mark.

"Scandal" season 6 will follow the tension-filled presidential elections with Olivia (Kerry Washington) doing everything in her power so Mellie (Bellamy Young) could be the next president.

A recasting has recently been announced for the upcoming season. "Glee" alum Jessalyn Gilsig will be replacing Joelle Carter to play the role of Jake's (Scott Foley) wife Vanessa.

Carter won't be in "Scandal" season 6 after nabbing a major role in "Chicago Justice. Gilsig was chosen to play the role instead, with the star happily obliging.

"Been very excited to share this! Glad Joelle is onto something exciting and happy to step in," Gilsig tweeted out. Fans expressed their excitement for the former "Vikings" star to be part of the show.

Vanessa's role in "Scandal" season 6 is a mystery at the moment, but the character was very much involved in the previous season with Jake and Rowan's (Joe Morton) storyline.

"Scandal" season 6 premieres early next year on ABC.
