'Star Wars Battlefront' Death Star DLC news update: R2-D2 becomes playable
If fans thought that "Star Wars Battlefront" could not get any better with its post-launch game, the "Death Star" downloadable content (DLC) comes along.
The upcoming expansion pack will feature R2-D2, the beloved astromech droid, as a playable character in a new game mode. This was revealed during the Gamescom 2016 event in Cologne, Germany.
R2-D2 will appear in the new Battle Station mode of the "Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star" DLC. The mode has three phases, with the first one centered on space battles.
There, the Rebels piloting – X-Wings and A-Wings – attempt to weaken the defenses of the Star Destroyer by shooting down as many TIE Fighters and TIE Interceptors as possible.
In the second phase, this is where R2-D2 comes up as players will have to locate and rescue him. Players can take on this phase as Chewbacca or Bossk, both are playable in the "Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star" DLC.
The third phase in the new mode for "Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star" DLC will see players to recreate the iconic movie moment and blow up the Death Star.
"Players can become the hero of the Rebellion, Luke Skywalker, in his Red-5 X-wing as they attempt to destroy the Empire's ultimate weapon. But beware as Darth Vader has been dispatched to protect the Empire's asset in his TIE Advanced," developer DICE said on its blog.
The developer also promised more goodies to come in "Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star" DLC in the form of Star Cards and Blaster as well as the new heroes.
There were no details revealed as far as R2-D2's playability is concerned, but DICE will be revealing more details about the expansion pack as its launch approaches this September.
As with all DLCs for "Star Wars Battlefront," players with the Season Pass will enjoy a one-week exclusivity before the rest of the gamers.
