'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers, updates: Upcoming season series' last? Creator Eric Kripke addresses rumors
The creator of "Supernatural" just confirmed something that would be music to fans' ears concerning the future of the series. Meanwhile, the lead stars of The CW's supernatural thriller dished on what they want from their characters in "Supernatural" season 12.
Speculations that the upcoming season of "Supernatural" would be the series' last, and that it would end with the death of Sam and Dean Winchester, played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles respectively, have been circulating. The fact that the show's creator, Eric Kripke, is currently working on another TV series, NBC's "Timeless," only fueled the rumors.
Although Kripke is, indeed, working on a new series, he has long handed over the reins of "Supernatural" to Sera Gamble and Jeremy Carver. Moreover, what was supposed to be a five-season series has extended to the twelfth season, and there's a possibility that it could go beyond that, owing to the immense popularity of the series.
Speaking to Collider, Kripke said that as long as Padalecki and Ackles are willing to reprise their roles in the series, there would be no end to "Supernatural."
"As long as Jared and Jensen, who are the heart of the show, are up for it, then anything's possible," he said. "As long as everyone's having fun and Jared and Jensen are having fun, they'll keep doing it."
He even said that there would be no shortage of storylines to use should the series extend beyond season 12 because there are just too many stories to tell. Incidentally, co-producer Jim Michaels has confirmed that there will be 23 episodes for season 12.
In other news, both Ackles and Padalecki spoke to TV Line in June, and they dished on what they would want to see in the upcoming episode. For Ackles, he said revisiting Purgatory might be something "cool" while Padalecki wants to have more interaction between Sam and Castiel (Misha Collins).
Ackles likewise talked to Access Hollywood and said one of the biggest reveals of "Supernatural" season 12 is the return of Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith).
"That's the biggest question, right? What is she doing back? Why is she back? What's happening? I don't have any answers," Ackles admitted.
"Supernatural" season 12 returns to The CW on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. ET.
