'This Is Us' spoilers, news updates and details: Chrissy Metz revealed her contract includes weight loss

NBC's family dramedy "This Is Us," is off to a good start with an already huge fan base for its first season run. One of the characters, Kate (Chrissy Metz), a 36-year-old personal assistant who is struggling with self-esteem issues due to her weight problems since childhood, is a fan-favorite as her struggle with self-confidence relates to most viewers.

In a TVLine interview, Metz revealed that losing weight is part of her contract for the show. "In our contract, it did state that that would be a part of it, to lose the weight in the trajectory of the character as she comes to find herself," she said.

"That was a win-win for me. Because it's one thing to try to do it on your own. But as human beings, it's an ego thing: We're more likely to do something for someone else," she added.

Because of this, fans will get to witness not just her character's weight-loss journey, but also the actress's real-life journey to a healthier body. Metz, however, made it clear that her decision of agreeing to the contract is also her personal lifestyle choice.

"Whether or not I lose weight or stay the same, it's purely a choice of mine for health. Not because I think that plus-size, curvy, voluptuous, big bodies aren't attractive — because I think they're awesome and sexy," Metz added.

Metz also added that there is no certain timeline about the weight loss journey, it's just something that she and the show producers have talked about.

"I was excited, because the irony of it all is that about three years ago, I lost, like, 100 pounds. I just was like, I'm tired of this, and this is going to be really tricky. How am I ever going to book any roles if they're not going to book plus-size girls?" Metz said in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly.

She then added that if she lost all the weight, she wouldn't have had the opportunity to be cast on "This Is Us." "So that's why I really believe that things happen for a reason, and that I'm going to do it in a healthy way," Metz said.

It is also further speculated that Kate's love interest, Toby (Chris Sullivan), will play a big role in her efforts to lose weight, especially that Toby is helping her come out of her shell and regain confidence in herself.

"This Is Us" airs every Tuesday, 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
