'Titanfall 2' release date news 2016: Respawn says game's PS4 development 'smooth sailing'

Now that "Titanfall 2" is also headed to the PlayStation 4, there's a reason to worry about how the once Microsoft-exclusive title will turn out.

Just recently, developer Respawn Entertainment revealed the development process was actually "smooth" and that they enjoyed making the game for the Sony console.

Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine UK, "Titanfall 2" producer Drew McCoy admitted that the process was expected to be arduous, but the title was surprisingly easier to make for the PS4 than they expected.

"We've been through [this process] multiple times. Usually, when you add a new platform, it's pain and suffering, because they're so different in their architecture and development platforms," he said via Gamepur.

"But honestly, the PS4 is pretty easy to get to [grips with] because the architectures aren't that different, the tools are good, and everyone's figured out how to make software now," he continued.

The first "Titanfall" game was only released to Microsoft platforms namely the personal computer (PC), Xbox 360 and Xbox One. This setting changes in the sequel, which will also be experienced with PS4 players.

McCoy reiterated that bringing "Titanfall 2" to the Sony platform "took a ton of really hard work," but the task was made possible by Respawn's "amazing engineers."

"But it wasn't the type of thing where it was like, 'Oh God, we never thought about this. How are we going to handle this?' Nah. It's a lot of hard work but it's smooth sailing," the producer assured.

Publisher Electronic Arts believes that "Titanfall 2" will do much better than its predecessor in terms of sales when it releases this fall.

In its latest earnings report of the company, chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said that the sequel will sell 10 million units. The first "Titanfall" raked in seven million.

"Titanfall 2" will be released on Oct. 28.
