Xbox Project Scorpio specs, news and updates: price to be over $400, Xbox boss hints
Anticipating Xbox fans already know that the company's next big console will be available during the holidays of 2017 — and it doesn't come cheap, as Microsoft executives already hinted.
Apparently, Microsoft officials claim that Xbox's Project Scorpio will be a more powerful console than the newly released PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro) by Sony, which went on sale starting Nov. 10 at $400. Basically, it is implied that Scorpio will definitely cost more than just $400.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer said during an interview with LevelUp that Scorpio will remain a "premium console." "It will cost more than S (at $300), obviously, that's how we are building it," he said.
"We haven't announced price points for Scorpio yet, but I want to make sure the investments that we're putting into the product of Scorpio meets the demands of the higher-end customer, and that will be a higher price," the Xbox boss further explained.
In addition, Spencer explained that the Xbox Scorpio is not essentially a new generation of console that is intended as a follow-up for the Xbox One, rather, it will live alongside the Xbox System — with games and accessories for Xbox One, and even including the Xbox 360 Backward Compatibility Program support.
Microsoft envisions the project as part of an ecosystem in which gamers can still choose a console that meets their needs.
"It is really the breadth of all the products you have at all the price points," Spencer explained. "For us, when we think about Scorpio, it's for a higher-end customer who demands the most they can get out of a console, and we built a console to meet that demand."
The Xbox Scorpio is speculated to support both 4K display and virtual reality (VR) support. Aside from that, no other details about its specs are officially revealed yet.
