2017 Bentley Continental Supersports release date, specs, price news: Bentley introduces world's fastest four-seat car
Bentley has introduced the Continental Supersports which is touted to be the world's fastest four-seat car and the most powerful vehicle that the British luxury automaker has ever produced.
The premium grant tourer (GT) is powered by a 6.0-liter W12 engine with high-performance turbos and engine hardware, as well as a torque vectoring system. The engine, which is mated to the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, delivers 700 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque which allows the Continental Supersports to go from standstill to 60 miles per hour (mph) in just 3.4 seconds and attain a top speed of 209 mph.
To support this kind of performance, the luxury four-seat car also comes with high-performance carbon ceramic brakes with enhanced cooling, a redesigned exhaust system that retains Bentley's signature sound and 21-inch forged alloy wheels.
"The Supersports name is legendary at Bentley. From the very first Supersports of the 1920s, to the Continental Supersports of 2009—and now with the third iteration of this iconic model—it is a name which excites, impassions and thrills. Only Bentley could create a car which blends immense performance and unrivaled luxury in this way," said Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors.
Apart from its unrivaled performance, the Continental Supersports also impresses when it comes to its elegant and premium design language. The GT comes with newly sculpted front and rear bumpers, a carbon fiber splitter and diffuser, gloss-black front wing vents and exhaust tailpipe, dark-tint headlamps and taillamps and black-finished brightware on the front grille, lights, rear bumper, door handles and window surrounds.
Meanwhile, the cabin is the prime example of the contemporary British luxury experience with a multitude of bespoke styling options. The Continental Supersports is offered with a tri-tone interior color scheme, diamond-quilted design in the seats and door panels, Alcantara upholstery and carbon-fiber panels. The GT also features Supersports emblem stitching, a bespoke Supersports steering wheel and a unique gear lever. Mulliner, Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding department, will also entertain individual customer requests.
The 2017 Bentley Continental Supersports will make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. EST. The luxury four-seat car will arrive in May with a starting price of $293,300. A convertible option will also be available for $322,600.
