Suzuki recently unveiled the all-new Swift compact car which is scheduled to go on sale in Japan on Jan. 4, 2017.

The Swift continues to be the Japanese automobile manufacturer's flagship vehicle with more than 5.3 million units sold worldwide since 2004. For the new model year, the next-generation Swift gains an innovative new design and enhanced driving performance.

The latest iteration of the Swift was built using HEARTECT, a light and rigid new-generation platform architecture which provides more cabin space. The all-new compact car maintains the overall design language of its predecessor but features a redesigned front fascia with a more prominent grille and swept-back headlights.

The 2017 Suzuki Swift will be available in the following trim levels: XG, XL, RS, Hybrid ML, hybrid RS and RSt.

In Japan, the compact car will have three powertrain options: a mild hybrid system, a 1.2-liter DualJet engine with high thermal efficiency that produces 91 horsepower and 87 pound-foot of torque and a 1.0-liter BoosterJet direct-injected turbo engine that delivers 102 horsepower and 110 pond-feet of torque for the sporty RS variant. The powertrain can be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. The car is also available with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems.

The 2017 Suzuki Swift also comes with the latest safety technologies including the Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) collision-mitigating system. It comes with a monocular camera, a laser sensor and an automatic high beam assist. There is also adaptive cruise control so that the car is able to maintain a certain distance from other vehicles.

Aside from Japan, the all-new Swift will also be made available in several international markets. Its specifications will be modified to suit the demands of other markets. Unfortunately, the compact car isn't expected to arrive in North America.

The 2017 Suzuki Swift is slated to make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. International availability and pricing could be announced at the upcoming auto show.
