General Motors Company has finally given its midsize crossover an overhaul with the introduction of the 2018 Terrain. The vehicle debuted at the North American International Auto Show with a stronger design, new engine options and the latest safety technologies.

In terms of appearances, the 2018 Terrain has adopted the same design language featured in the Arcadia. The crossover's exterior is stronger, sharper and more sculpted, as seen in the grille and lighting elements. There is also a boxy chrome grille, LED daytime running lamps and taillamps, and 17-inch wheels. All in all, the crossover has a more imposing stance and a truck-like appearance.

Under the hood, the 2018 GMC Terrain gains new powertrain options including the all-new 1.6-liter turbo-diesel. Meanwhile, the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged gas engines are mated with also new nine-speed automatic transmissions with the latter delivering stronger acceleration and higher performance. The midsize crossover also features a new Electronic Precision Shift that takes up less space with its electronically controlled gear selection and intuitive push buttons and pull triggers.

Once inside the all-new Terrain, passengers will see that the cabin has been made more luxurious with the inclusion of an aluminum trim, soft-touch materials on the instrument panel and doors, expanded center console and active noise cancellation. The vehicle's infotainment system will also come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Furthermore, drivers will be able to access their vehicle remotely via the myGMC mobile app.

Chevrolet will offer the 2018 Terrain in four trims: SL, SLE, SLT and the range-topping Denali. The Denali will come standard with a heated steering wheel, navigation, a seven-speaker Bose sound system and a hands-free programmable power liftgate.

Safety features for the all-new Terrain include Surround Vision, Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator, Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Safety Alert Seat.

The 2018 GMC Terrain will go on sale this summer. Pricing has not yet been announced.
