2018 Lexus LS release date, specs news update: Flagship sedan to debut at NAIAS in January 2017
Lexus has announced that the 2018 LS will make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in January 2017. The luxury vehicle division of Toyota also released a teaser image for the upcoming flagship sedan.
Lexus' all-new fifth-generation sedan will feature bold design that is highlighted by a coupe-like silhouette. The 2018 LS also features design elements first seen in the LF-FC concept car that was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show back in 2015.
The flagship sedan will be built using the company's new global architecture for luxury vehicles (GA-L) which is a premium rear-wheel drive platform. A shorter version is seen in the LC 500 coupe. The new platform will translate to a more dynamic and sportier driving experience for the 2018 LS.
According to Motor Authority, the teaser image shows that the all-new LS will feature Lexus' signature spindle grille in front. The suspension is also somewhat revealed, detailing a double-wishbone front setup with air suspension at all four corners.
While Lexus has yet to announce powertrain options, the 2018 LS will likely be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 471 horsepower. The 354-horsepower hybrid powertrain from the LC 500h may also be included.
Based on a report by Autocar UK, a hydrogen power option will also be released in the near future. The powertrain will have one electric motor driving the rear wheels and electricity will be sent to the two electric motors in the front.
The use of the GA-L platform will also provide the 2018 LS with a spacious cabin. It will feature luxurious materials and the latest technologies including front and rear touchscreens and a gesture-controlled infotainment system. Lexus is also expected to equip the sedan with autonomous driving technologies.
The 2018 Lexus LS is expected to arrive at dealers in the second half of 2017.
