A nine-year-old fourth grade student was honored by the Michigan State Police on Thursday for driving her mom's car to safety after the latter had seizure while behind the wheel.

Jacey Jones of Bay City has been hailed as a hero for her act.

One morning last September, her mom, Samantha, was driving her to school on the Westside Saginaw Road when she had seizure, according to NBC25.

"I had a seizure while I was driving," Samantha said, adding that she regained consciousness in the hospital.

"I was just driving her to school like any other day and I, I woke up a few hours later in the hospital," she added.

Jacey was in the backseat with her sister when her mother had seizure. Immediately, Jacey got in the front seat and grabbed the steering wheel. She drove the car to the school parking lot.

"I was just really scared," said Jacey.

Rev. Paul Theiss, chaplain for the Michigan State Police, said, "I was on the other side of the building and then went out around the parking lot and saw all the commotion."

In the parking lot, Jacey drove in circles that grabbed the attention of a parent.

Samantha said the parent jumped in and took control of the car.

"I really believe it," said Samantha.

When her husband, Jeff, learned about it, he immediately went to the school.

"That's one of the mailboxes she took out – it smashed this whole side of the window," said Jeff of the damage to the car. "You could see a mailbox smashed there. This whole quarter panel was ripped off."

But the more important thing is that they were safe.

"My daughter was amazing and she saved us that morning," said Samantha.

Jacey is the eldest of three girls and said she's used to watch over her siblings.

"Sometimes when my mom is cooking dinner, I have to watch them and stuff," she said.
