Actor Brad Pitt Says He's An Atheist, Believes in 'Integrity'
Actor Brad Pitt recently said in an interview while promoting his new film "By the Sea" that he identifies as an atheist, instead trying to follow his integrity as a moral guide throughout his life.
Pitt, who stars in the new film "By the Sea" alongside his wife, Angelina Jolie, said in a recent interview with The Telegraph that he grew up in a strict Southern Baptist household in Missouri.
The well-known actor said in the interview that his father growing up was "very, very tough," but added "He could be a softie. But one thing my folks always stressed was being capable, doing things for yourself. He was really big on integrity – and that informed a lot of what [we] try to do now."
Unlike her husband, Jolie, who directed the film, has said in past interviews that she does believe in a higher power.
After directing the movie "Unbroken," which follows the life of Christian and U.S. prisoner of war Louis Zamperini, Jolie said in an interview with People magazine that "there's something greater than all of us."
"When there is an obstacle, you have to rise to that challenge, not be overwhelmed by it. And we're not alone in the world. I don't know if there's a name for that – religion or faith – just that there's something greater than all of us, and it's uniting and beautiful," Jolie said in the interview.
Jolie and Pitt star together in the recently-released film "By the Sea," which follows a troubled American married couple as they befriend a young honeymooning couple while vacationing in France.
