Actor Kirk Cameron: Christian Actors Should Use Their Influence To Spread God's Grace
Christian actor Kirk Cameron has recently spoken out on the role the faithful play in Hollywood, saying Christians should use their reputation in the spotlight to spread the word of God and hold themselves to a higher standard.
Cameron, who is promoting his new family-friendly film "Mercy Rule," told Fox 411 in a recent interview that he's not ashamed to be a celebrity Christian, adding that he uses his position in society to promote the word of God.
"I love God I'm a Christian, but the films that I make […] are really about themes that I think resonate in people's heart, at least they do in my own family," Cameron, 43, told Fox 411. "So I'm always going to make movies that I believe in, that I can give 100 percent to, that I think are going to be offering people something good."
"I think that when anyone is in the spotlight […] you're always going to be held to a higher standard and we should be held to a higher standard because we're influencing more people than others might be," Cameron, who shares six children with his wife Chelsea Noble, continued. "With the privilege of a platform comes great responsibility....[We've] got to be careful with what we say and how we say it and everything should be seasoned with grace and while I certainly I don't do that perfectly, I strive to do it increasingly."
Cameron has previously stirred controversy when standing strong in his Christian faith, especially when discussing hot button issues such as homosexuality and same-sex marriage.
The actor, most famous for his role in the 1980's sitcom "Growing Pains," has starred in several other faith-themed films and documentaries, including "Monumental," "Fireproof" and "Unstoppable."
