Al-Qaeda Releases Video Calling for Lone-Wolf Attacks Against U.S., Russia, Israel
The al-Qaeda terrorist group has called for sympathizers to carry out lone-wolf attacks against western countries, including the United States.
Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri said in a recently-released audio recording this week that he encourages supporters of the terrorist group to carry out lone-wolf attacks in western countries, including the United States.
Al-Zawahiri praised attacks carried out by Palestinians on Israeli soil as an example of successful lone wolf attacks.
The SITE intelligence group, which monitors jihadist activity, released the video of Zawahiri speaking. The video had reportedly been published on social media sites including Twitter.
"The first matter is striking the West and specifically America in its own home, and attacking their interests that are spread everywhere," Zawahiri says in the video.
"The supporters of Israel must pay with their blood and their economy," the terrorist leader added.
Zawahiri went on to name other groups considered to be enemies of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization, including Russia.
"The Americans, Russians, Iranians, Alawites, and Hezbollah are coordinating their war against us -- are we not capable of stopping the fighting amongst ourselves so we can direct all our efforts against them?" Zawahiri questioned in the video.
This recorded message from al-Qaeda comes after the Islamic State terrorist group issued a video back in August encouraging sympathizers to carry out lone-wolf attacks, along with releasing the personal information of 1,400 U.S. military and government personnel.
The U.S. military argued that although the terrorist group claimed to have received the information via a data breach, it was actually received through a cyber attack.
