'Alien: Covenant' release date, news: Katherine Waterston talks about Daniels and setting of the film
Now that 20th Century Fox is in full marketing campaign mode, expect a lot of details to come out between now until the film comes out in May. Just don't expect the people behind the film to reveal any details that will spoil the film for moviegoers.
Leading actress Katherine Waterston played terraforming expert Daniels in the film, and she was more than willing to share some information about her character during a recent chat with Collider.
"She's an impressive woman, and she's smart and capable and everything, but she's just a member of the crew. She's not a warrior or anything. It's just that the circumstances push her into a very unexpected kind of combat, and she just happens to be one of those people, it turns out, that when push comes to shove, she's got a great deal of strength and confidence. It's not necessarily something she knows about herself," she stated.
Waterston admitted that Daniels was in the same situation that Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) was in the original "Alien" film because they were both regular ladies before they were forced to fight for their lives.
She also talked about how hospitable the new planet in the film looked compared with the planets seen in the previous "Alien" films. Of course, if a planet is hospitable, that means there is life there. Unfortunately, the crew of the Covenant is going to find out soon that the creatures on that planet aren't very friendly.
While Waterston talked freely about her character and the setting of the film, she was a little guarded when she was asked about the connection between "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant." She said the movies were like a "voyage into the unknown," so fans would have to wait to find out.
The film does have direct ties to "Prometheus" since Michael Fassbender is returning to portray the synthetic android, David.
"Alien: Covenant" is scheduled to premiere on May 19, 2017.
