Amanda Knox Trial Latest News: Knox and Sollecito Await Decision from Italy's Highest Court of Appeal
Italy's highest court of appeal will hear the Amanda Knox murder case again from March 25, 2015, which will be a year after the second guilty verdict was given. If the decision is sustained, the 27-year old Knox could technically be deported to Italy.
Amanda Knox, Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Guede were the primary suspects in the death of Meredith Kercher, who was found lying in a bloody bedroom in her apartment in Italy. The Florence court reconvicted Knox and her ex-boyfriend Sollecito earlier this year.
The 21-year old victim, Meredith Kercher, was a British student who moved from Coulsdon, London to Perugia. Guede was already convicted for her murder in 2008, but prosecutors have sought a conviction for Knox and Sollecito as well.
The two suspects were initially found guilty and were sentenced to 26 and 25 years imprisonment. However, after a four-year stay in prison, the two were acquitted on appeal and Knox returned to Washington soon after.
The three main pieces of evidence have included a bra clasp, a kitchen knife and footprints, and they have been used by prosecutors to claim that both Knox and Sollecito were at the crime scene.
Meanwhile, BBC is set to bring the murder case to the screen with a movie starring Kate Beckinsale and Cara Delevingne, according to reports. The movie will be based on the book of CNN journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau entitled "Angel Face."
Kercher's family gave permission to produce the movie but Knox's lawyers were not in favor and have said that the movie could unjustly influence people's opinion of the defendants.
