AMD Radeon RX 480 release date news 2016: AMD to launch driver update to fix power issue of RX 480
Following the successful release of Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 and Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070, tech freaks have shifted their focus on the release of the highly anticipated AMD Radeon RX 480. The latest addition to AMD's growing GPU technology has been a favorite subject of rumors and speculations before its announcement. New reports have emerged suggesting that the new graphics card may possess an issue in terms of power consumption.
The reports came out after several websites tested the new card's capability and resulted in their samples pulling more than the expected 75W over the PCIe slot.
The growing concern was immediately answered by a team from AMD who is said to be doing weekend duties to clarify the problem.
This is the official statement from AMD with regard to the issue.
"As you know, we continuously tune our GPUs in order to maximize their performance within their given power envelopes and the speed of the memory interface, which in this case is an unprecedented 8Gbps for GDDR5. Recently, we identified select scenarios where the tuning of some RX 480 boards was not optimal.
Fortunately, we can adjust the GPU's tuning via software in order to resolve this issue. We are already testing a driver that implements a fix, and we will provide an update to the community on our progress on Tuesday (July 5, 2016)."
Meanwhile, TechFrag reported that AMD will soon release a driver update to fix ongoing concern. As of the moment, many fans are starting to wonder whether the issue could be fixed or not. However, tech observers are pretty confident that AMD will find a definite solution for the problem.
Many fans are certainly eager to run the driver update and see if it brings improvement to the current controversy. It will be interesting how fans will react after they install the update on Tuesday.
