Multinational semiconductor company AMD is set to release a new chipset and reports say that it's going be a powerful model that will surpass its previous units.

As detailed in a report, the name of the new chipset is Zen. AMD CEO Lisu Su previously said during an earnings call that it will be available in a few gaming systems only by the end of the year. But it seems like the company is making some changes in their schedule as it will possibly only be out early next year.

Reports suggested that Zen chips will hit servers in the first half of 2017 while the other half will be for laptops and desktops. As for the exact release date, no specific date has been revealed yet but rumor has it that the 8-core Zen processor from AMD will be out by Jan. 17, 2017. This information came from an AMD China partner called Maxsun. It could be launched during CES 2017.

Rumors also said that the upcoming chipset is codenamed "Summit Ridge," which is said to be an 8-core CPU with 16 hardware threads. It's also said to include a 14-nm FinFET architecture that is purported to provide 40 percent better performance than MD Excavator chips. Word also has it that the CPU will feature a unified AM4 socket that matches perfectly with motherboards for seventh generation A-series processors.

It's also reported that AMD plans to put together Zen chips and GPUs based on the Polaris graphics architecture to make it a product that can give users the ultimate gaming experience. AMD is really upping its game since it's going to be a tough competition against Intel's Extreme Edition chips and Nvidia Pascal GPUs such as the GeForce GTX 1080.

As of now, fans will have to stay tuned for more updates on the official details of the new AMD Zen-Octacore.
