AMD Zen Summit Ridge processors release date, specs, news: New processors to launch in January?
AMD Zen processors are reportedly releasing in January next year. As 2016 is closing, several ideas and rumors have been continuously discussed online as to what AMD has to offer against its competition.
According to reports, AMD Zen might be available on the 17th of January next year most probably during the CES 2017. Gamenguide reported that leaks have been making rounds, revealing possible names for the new AMD chipsets. In comparison, Intel has the i3, i5 and i7 series while the new AMD chipsets are expected to bear the titles SR3, SR5, and SR7.
Although there is no confirmed information with regards to the specs of the upcoming Summit Ridge processors, rumors has it that these processors are comparable to the i7 of Intel Core. Some say it's going to be much better. Accordingly, SR7 is rumored to feature eight core and 16 threads while Intel has only 6 cores and 12 threads. Between the two chipsets, one could easily distinguish the difference in power and performance.
On top of this, rumors also suggest that the Summit Ridge chipset has been upgraded from 3.15 to a 3.30 GHz base clock and a 3.5 GHz clock speed. If the rumors are true, the AMD SRs will amaze tech enthusiasts and gamers when the chipsets reach the market next year.
No matter how sophisticated a product may be, it all boils down to pricing to determine its future in the market. As for the AMD SRs, reports say that the chipsets could reach up to $220. But, since the SR3, SR5 and the SR7 are said to be closely priced with each other, it is possible that the SR7 might be pegged at around $300 to $320. Although many are intrigued about AMD's new set of processors, Intel won't stay behind the competition as it is planning to launch its own seventh-generation Kaby Lake processors around the same period.
