'American Crime' Spoilers, Plot Recap: Disturbing Truths Revealed After Matt's Death
The latest episode of "American Crime" aired on ABC on Thursday at 10/9c focused on the happenings a month after the murder of Matt. Some disturbing truths on the Gutierrez and Carlin families were revealed during the show's third episode fittingly titled "Episode Three."
Along with Nancy (Lili Taylor), It Barb (Felicity Huffman) sought ensure that the district attorney charged Hector (Richard Cabral) and Carter (Elvis Nolasco) with having committed a hate crime by murdering Matt.
Attention shifted to Alonzo Gutierrez (Benito Martinez) as he was waylaid by a TV crew. In the ambush interview, he blamed the murder on Hector who he described as an "illegal."
In prison, Hector was told by a doctor that his limp would never go away following treatment of his gunshot wound. Once he was better, the doctor said he would be deported to Mexico. One of his gang members encouraged him to steal from the infirmary and be productive, but Hector was not interested.
Russ (Timothy Hutton), in an attempt to get Matt buried as per the wishes of Tom (W. Earl Brown) and Eve Carlin (Penelope Ann Miller), tried to find a job so that he could remain in town. The trio filed papers for the burial to go ahead and Barb was served with them. At a subsequent hearing at a lawyer's office, the two families failed to reach settlement and were seen headed to court.
Meanwhile, Aubry (Caitlin Gerard) got her visit from her adopted father whom she had asked for help. He offered assistance only if she went to counseling. As for Carter, he was visited by his sister Aliyah (Regina King) who encouraged him to turn to God and give up drugs and white girls like Aubry.
Attention then shifted to Tony (Johnny Ortiz) in the juvenile detention facility. He was saved from a bully by a Latino. However, it appeared that Tony was not interested in going home and facing his father. His probation officer informed a shocked Alonzo, Tony's father, about this.
The major reveal in the episode came from Eve when she told Tom that she knew Gwen was having affairs with multiple men and was not happy with her marriage. She also disclosed that she was the one who had convinced her daughter to marry.
