'American Horror Story' Season 5 Cast News: Jessica Lange Leaving; Lady Gaga Joining
It is confirmed and final. Jessica Lange will not be returning to star in another season of the FX horror series "American Horror Story."
Even before the premiere of the just concluded Season 4, sub-titled "Freakshow," Lange had already mentioned that she would be leaving after that season. At PaleyFest, Lange ended all speculations that she would make an appearance in Season 5.
"I'm done," Buzzfeed quoted Lange as saying during the "American Horror Story: Freakshow" panel.
Lange acknowledged that she "absolutely loved" playing the four characters over the four seasons of the show – Constance Langdon for "Murder House," Sister Jude Martin for "Asylum," Fiona Goode for "Coven" and Elsa Mars for "Freak Show."
She said she loved the writers, the actors and of course, Ryan Murphy, the series creator, and the whole "insanity of it."
In other news, Lady Gaga has confirmed through Twitter that she will be a part of Season 5 of "American Horror Story." She further revealed the sub-title will be "Hotel." The details about her character have not been revealed though, but it was confirmed that she has been cast as a series regular.
On March 15, during the same PaleyFest, Lange gave an eye-rolling response when asked about Lady Gaga's new role for Season 5, and whether Lange would stay on since Gaga is joining Season 5. Lange seemed incapable of answering with words, so she just laughed slightly and rolled her head in an exaggerated fashion. The impression given was of an actress who didn't feel she needed to answer a foolish question about Gaga's new acting career. Gaga did not respond to the subtle diss directly.
"American Horror Story-Hotel" is expected to premiere in October 2015. Production is expected to begin in late summer in Los Angeles. Seasons 3 and 4 were filmed in New Orleans.
