'American Horror Story' season 6 news: Ryan Murphy reveals which characters are lying
As though the big twist in the sixth episode of "American Horror Story" ("AHS") season 6 wasn't enough, creator Ryan Murphy now hinted that things still aren't as they seem. Are "AHS" viewers in for another major twist in "Roanoke"?
"Chapter 6," the most recent episode, upended everything fans thought they knew about the season. In it, the actors who starred in the "My Roanoke Nightmare" documentary appeared alongside the actual people they had portrayed.
Shelby (Lily Rabe), Matt (Andre Holland), and Lee (Adina Porter) and their onscreen counterparts Audrey (Sarah Paulson), Dominic (Cuba Goofing, Jr.), and Monet (Angela Bassett) all agreed to spend three days in the haunted Roanoke Island house featured in the first five episodes.
There, they were joined by Agnes (Kathy Bates), who had played The Butcher, and Rory (Evan Peters), who had played the ghost of Edward Philippe Mott. Together, these people participated in a "Big Brother"-like reality series called "Roanoke: 3 Days In Hell."
By the end of the sixth episode, Rory was dead. It was also revealed that only one person would make it out of there alive.
In a recent interview with E! News, Murphy confirmed that some of the "3 Days In Hell" cast mates are not to be trusted and may be involved in something sinister that will again turn everything on its head.
When asked if Shelby, Matt, and Lee are reliable witnesses to what actually went on in the haunted house, Murphy answered, "My comment to that is: You cannot trust them."
"I think all three of them are... What they said and what they explained in their version of events is not actually the truth," he revealed.
"AHS" fans have previously theorized that these three have been lying all along about their experience in Roanoke and may be covering up a crime that they committed together.
Refinery29 suggested that maybe Shelby, Matt, and Lee didn't make it out of the haunted house because The Butcher's son had miraculously gained a conscience and helped them. According to the outlet, the three could have taken a page out of the Polks' book and promised The Butcher the lives of the "My Roanoke Nightmare" cast in order to spare their own.
Given that "3 Days in Hell" was supposedly filmed during the Blood Moon and that the Polks used to sacrifice others to The Butcher during the same annual event, it stands to reason that the real-life Shelby, Matt, and Lee will be revealed to be murderers.
"It's a very energizing twist and subsequent episodes are even more intense and even more harrowing," Murphy said about the season.
"American Horror Story" season 6 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
