Android 5.0 Lollipop Update on Sony Xperia Z3, Compact, Xperia Z2 - Rolling Out in Europe, U.S. to Follow Soon
Sony Mobile announced on its blog last week that owners of Sony Xperia Z3 and its predecessor Xperia Z2, along with several other compact and tablet variants (Xperia Z2 Tablet and the Xperia Z3 Compact), would soon be getting notifications on their devices for the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade via OTA, or over the air, Update actually already began in Europe last March 16. It will reach the United States and other countries in a few weeks' time.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update (1.2 GB in all) will blend Sony's updated software with Google's new Material Design OS. Further, Android for Work will be included in the update, too. Android for Work is Google's enterprise-focused platform that offers work profiles, more secure connectivity for productivity apps as well as a wider selection of productivity tools through the specialized app store "Google Play for Work."
Here are some of the other changes:
- Fresh, streamlined looks – based on Google's material design, but retaining the minimalistic approach to interface and application design;
- New look notifications and lock screen – with fully customizable settings, so you only get the information you really need;
- Multi user profiles and guest modes – so other people can use your device safely; and
- Better storage control, with the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card;
It looks like the update will reach the rest of Europe and other continents, including Asia, before the end of March.
There's no news yet from T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint as to when they will roll out the updates in the United States.
