Apple iOS 8 GMT Bug Problems: Glitch Causes Issues For iPhone 6 Users

The date confusion blamed on Apple iOS 8 GMT Bug. | APPLE SUPPORT SITE

Since Apple released its latest iOS 8 over four months ago, bugs in the operating system that runs the tech company's latest devices continue to persist and could remain for some time, according to experts.

One major problem that Apple's engineers have been unable to fix is the so-called "GMT" bug which is causing major confusion to those who use the iOS 8's calendar app on a variety of devices.

Users who imported their events to the calendar app using either a Microsoft Exchange or Google exchange server are those facing this problem. The first instance of this problem was reported by a user on Sept. 21 in the Apple website's Support Communities forum. Since then, the post was replied to several hundred times by users running to nearly 40 pages. It also appears that far more people have been facing the same issue as the post has been viewed by at least 228,000 visitors.

Describing the problem, CultofMac stated that after initially creating the event and syncing it with the calendar app, the time is additionally displayed in GMT. This becomes a problem when subsequent edits are performed on the appointment and the event permanently moves into the GMT timing.

Initially, Forbes noted that Apple chose to ignore the issue, saying it was how the operating system works. Recently, however, after four months and numerous complaints, the company changed its tune with its support engineers admitting to a user that "they were working to fix the problem."

The support engineers also admitted that there was "no timeframe for the fix," which has led to others finding their own solution to the problem. One suggestion is using a third party calendar app to circumvent the problem as these do not seem to be affected.

Others suggested using the 'Time Zone Override" feature in the calendar to keep it locked onto one time zone even if a number of devices are used to update it.
