Apple iWatch Features News: App to Fight 'Cancer' - Tim Cook Ticks Key Selling Points of Upcoming Gadget
Will you pay $350 for something that will keep you from sitting too long?
Well, Apple's chief executive officer Tim Cook thought you might want to buy the most eagerly anticipated gadget of the year, which has the new ability to "fight the new cancer."
Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference on Tuesday in San Francisco, Cook pitched health as one of the key selling points of Apple Watch.
"If I sit for too long, it will actually tap me on the wrist to remind me to get up and move, because a lot of doctors think sitting is the new cancer," Cook said, according to the Guardian.
"Ten minutes before the hour, it will remind you to move. We have a lot of people using the Apple Watch at Apple, and 10 minutes before the hour, suddenly they all get up and move. It took a little to get used to, but it's great," he said.
Dexcom's upcoming Apple Watch app, for instance, will be able to help diabetes patients report glucose levels on a graph by working with a tiny monitor that's inserted under the skin. The app has already been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Cook said that just like the iPhone, the app selection for the Apple Watch will be a huge differentiator to separate Apple's offering from those of its competitors.
The new smartwatch, which he likened to early MP3 players before the iPod came along, includes hourly reminders to owners to be more active.
"We weren't the first company to make an MP3," Cook said. "They were fundamentally too hard to use, and the user interface was really bad," he added, according to Yahoo! Tech.
Admitting that there are already several competitors in the market, Cook defended their new product by promising it can change how people live their lives.
