Apple iWatch Release Date, Specs and Features News: Apple Releases Invitations for March 9 'Spring Forward' Event

The invitation to Apple's Spring Forward Event | APPLE

Apple is expected to start shipping the Apple Watch in April. The company has just sent out a cryptic invitation to the media announcing an event on March 9 which it labeled as "Spring Forward."

Scheduled a day after daylight savings time comes into effect in the U.S., the event will take place in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, C.A. Industry sources said this is connected to the launching of Apple Watch.

Apple did not provide any specific information as to what would be featured in the event. While the Apple Watch is at the top of the list of its upcoming products, the company could very well choose to showcase others. Among the other products that could be featured are the updated Apple TV, MacBook Air or the rumored Apple Car.

The tag line of the event "Spring Forward" has left many news outlets betting that Apple plans to focus on the Apple Watch and nothing else in order to guarantee its success.

The watch was announced in September of last year and also earlier this year. In Apple's earnings call, CEO Tim Cook stated that the Apple Watch would be launched in April.

Since the announcement, more details about the Apple Watch have emerged on the company's website, but most of the device is still under wraps. Other websites have gleaned bits of information based on Cook's comments and have come to the conclusion that the watch will have to be charged nightly, and will be waterproof enough to survive in a shower. The upcoming media event is expected to remedy the lack of information and provide more details on the Apple Watch.

The watch will reportedly come in three different lines – Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch Edition and Apple Watch. The Edition line is the costliest of the three and will feature a solid yellow gold body or a rose gold version. The Apple Watch Sport will be the cheapest and cost $349.
