Apple Watch 2 rumors: Smartwatch upgrade includes GPS, faster processor and larger battery

Rumor land is replete with news about the second iteration of "Apple Watch," with a number of upgrades that will reportedly include larger battery, integrated Global Positioning System (GPS), and a more powerful processor, an industry analyst recently claims.

As reported by MacRumors, reputable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple's next-generation smartwatch will have a number of forthcoming interesting features such as an enhanced processor for better computing performance, longer battery life, and inbuilt GPS technology. On top of these add-ons comes a waterproofed design.

Kuo has long established himself as a credible source of insider information. The latest tech reveal of "Apple Watch 2's" iterative features and specs is mentioned in his note to investors. He noted that the upcoming device will continue to sport similar external design as its predecessor. The leakster added that the second iteration will not be equipped with Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity as indicated in previous rumors circulating online. However, Kuo suggested that LTE might be added sometime next year or when the third-generation Apple Watch is rolled out.

In a related development, the Cupertino-based giant has unwrapped a new "Apple Watch" operating system (OS) during its Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) earlier this June. Some tech observers think that the introduction of the new OS might be linked to the rumored launch of the Watch later this year alongside the much anticipated iPhone 7.

Furthermore, Kuo's Apple Watch prediction is not the only one making waves this year. As reported previously across a number of online media outlets, the KGI Securities analyst also released a note on the upcoming MacBook Pro 2016. If his prediction proves accurate, the laptop would include beefed-up features such as Touch ID, USB Type C support, and OLED touchscreen, CNET reported.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly set to launch the new Watch in September this year in five variants with over 3, 500 downloadable apps available.
