Apple Watch 2 release date, specs news 2016: Launch expected this Fall, to sport thinner screen display
There is still no confirmation regarding the arrival of the Apple Watch 2 this year, although the rumors are rife that the second generation of Apple's smartwear will be boasting a lot of improvements over its predecessor. One of the major changes speculated is the thinner appearance of the smartwatch's screen display, thanks to a new display technology aiming to minimize the internal space where a larger battery could fit into.
As reported by the Digi Times, the touch panel maker and component supplier of Apple, the TPK Holding, reportedly stated that the upcoming Apple Watch 2 will make use of the so-called "One Glass Solution" or OGS for the screen display. This is different from the "Glass on Glass" solution already utilized in the first Apple Watch. Moreover, the current version of the smartwatch is made up of two pieces of glass, but when the latest One Glass Solution by TPK Holdings is implemented, the screen will only make use of one that will free up more internal space. Therefore, there will be enough space for a larger and more efficient battery, plus the new Apple Watch will be slightly less heavy than its predecessor.
On the other hand, there are also rumors that the Apple Watch 2 may include an LTE chip to enable a better cellular connectivity. It will also be built with a FaceTime camera, plus a custom S2 processor. Apple may also expand its health app features for the smartwatch as it is highly speculated that the Apple Watch 2 will have a GPS chip for improved fitness tracking. It is also likely that the new Apple Watch will have a selfie camera, as suggested by the alleged patent applications submitted by Apple. The leaked patents are two, and the first one reveals the Apple Watch 2's design having a selfie camera, Trusted Reviews reported.
As for the release of the Apple Watch 2, it is possible that the company will unveil the new smartwatch during their next big event this September. Its release may coincide with the big reveal of the iPhone 7.
