Apple Watch 2 release date, specs rumors 2016: Company gears up for a September release
While most people are focused on the upcoming iPhone 7 release, several Apple fanatics are excited for the upcoming launch of the second generation Apple Watch. Although the Cupertino-based company has yet to provide solid details with regard to its development and release, there is a big possibility that the wearable device will be unveiled next month.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the company is gearing up for the release of the Apple Watch 2 as units of the original Apple Watch start to run low. Although the current device is still available in some retailers across the country, the popular tech watch is listed as sold out on the company's website. Apple might have already stopped the production of the wearable device to prepare for the arrival of its successor. However, the company has yet to confirm these reports.
In a report by MacRumors, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims the upcoming Apple Watch 2 will perform better than its predecessor. He also believes that the next Apple Watch model will carry the same external design of the current device. However, there will be a difference in the screen as the new model will sport a thinner display.
The expert also contradicts earlier reports that the Apple Watch 2 will have cellular connectivity, saying that Long Term Evolution (LTE) support might not happen until next year. Kuo also suggests that Apple might allow a huge discount on the current Apple Watch once the company decides to launch the new device.
Other features of the new Apple Watch 2 will include a Global Positioning System (GPS) system and a barometer.
Earlier reports suggest that the new Apple smart watch will have its own Facetime camera and Wi-Fi chip. However, Kou did not confirm these reports.
