Apple Watch Series 2 release date and specs: New device is said to be waterproof
For months, fans have been heavily speculating on the Apple Watch's successor and it has finally been confirmed as the Apple Watch Series 2. The possible reason for naming the device "Series 2" is because it is more of an improvement to the current Apple Watch instead of a completely new sequel. It comes with loads of new features, including the watch being waterproof.
According to CNet, the new Apple Watch is said to focus more on its ability to aid in sports. The waterproof feature is said to aid swimmers in their laps, and the device can even record the progress of the wearer during the course of one's swim. The watch can also withstand a depth of up to 50 meters. While users can wear it while swimming or showering, it's not advisable to wear the watch when one is deep sea diving.
The Series 2 also possesses better technology to improve all-around performance. The device has a faster dual-core processor, as well as higher-end graphics and a brighter display. The device also comes with a GPS feature and can even measure the user's pace while jogging or biking.
As for the design of the watch, not much has changed, but it does come with a new ceramic casing which makes it a lot more durable.
The Apple Watch Series 2 also features new software like the WatchOS 3. Fortunately, the WatchOS 3 will not be exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 2 and it will be available for older Apple Watch models come Tuesday, Sept. 13.
There have also been rumors saying that the new Apple Watch will have a longer lasting battery, but no hands-on tests have been able to confirm the rumor so far.
The Apple Watch Series 2 is said to come out on Friday, Sept 16.
