'Arrow' season 5 spoilers news: Stephen Amell says Oliver and Felicity not necessarily getting back together
"Arrow" star Stephen Amell recently broke the hearts of many die-hard Olicity fans when he commented that the fan favorite pair may not actually be getting back together in "Arrow" season 5.
During an appearance at the Heroes & Villains FanFest in New Jersey last week, Amell, who plays the titular superhero Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, spoke about his character's relationship with Felicity Smoak, played by Emily Bett Rickards.
"I was chatting with a couple of fans earlier and they were saying there hasn't been a lot of positivity and reassuring notions when it comes to Oliver and Felicity's relationship," the actor said, as quoted by TVLine.
He then went on to say what many in the crowd didn't want to hear, adding, "I think that it's important to remember that relationships on the show don't have to be only defined by romance."
"Oliver and Felicity could have a wonderful, fulfilling, dynamic relationship and not be together, right?" he asked the audience.
Many in attendance were not amused by Amell's statement, letting out boos. The "Arrow" star then tried to placate the fans, saying, "I hope that they're both in a happy positive place."
"Whether that means they're together or not remains to be seen," he concluded.
Amell's statements about Olicity during the FanFest went against an earlier announcement by his "Arrow" co-star David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle.
"We can expect death, mayhem, and Oliver and Felicity getting back together," the actor reportedly said during a Heroes & Villains FanFest appearance earlier in the week.
Ramsey's comment was welcomed by many Olicity shippers who were devastated when the couple ended their brief engagement in season 4.
In the show's fourth season, Oliver and Felicity's chaotic romance was rocked by various tragedies and unwelcome revelations, and eventually ended with Felicity breaking up with Oliver.
"Arrow" season 5 debuts Oct. 5 on The CW.
